The story of the Marquise
La Marquise de Grollier Room celebrates the memory of Charlotte Eustache Sophie de Fuligny-Damas, a remarkable woman of the 18th century, known for her artistic sensitivity, elegance and discreet commitmentComing from the high aristocracy, she moved in the intellectual circles of Versailles, where she was passionate about the botanical painting, guided by the great masters of his time.
The Revolution changed her destiny: widowed after the execution of her husband, she went into exile in Italy. There, she pursued her art with restraint, drawing a deep sense of calm from nature. Back in France, she retired to Épinay-sur-Seine, dividing her time between creation, gardening and charitable works.
